The FM Band / Next  - 4

A special thanks to my old friend Sue, who (finally) dug these pics out of the attic for me!

A faithful Richie Sambora fan from Japan sent me a tape of a bootleg CD that she had of The Next. When I heard it, I remembered that it was recorded at Brothers Saloon in Mercerville NJ in late January or early February of 1980. These pictures are from around that time, if not that very same evening!

It's pretty cool that a tape that was recorded on a machine three  feet from you in 1980, comes to you some 19 years later from half way around the world! (thanks Rie!)  If you happen to own a copy of it, I put together some liner notes to go with it so you know the song titles and who's singing lead etc.

The Next Live At Brothers Saloon January 1980

For those of you who have a copy of the bootleg CD of The Next, here are some notes about it so you know what you are listening to.

It was likely recorded right from the sound board (although by the time I got a copy of it you would never know it) and somehow made its way around the world as Richie got more well known.

It was recorded not long after Dean Fasano joined the band as lead singer. At that time, the band was preparing for a studio showcase in New York for a group of record company executives.

Let me just say, that the band was much better live than the way they sound on that tape. I saw them many times and it doesn't do them justice. But for a fan of Richie's, it makes a nice addition to your collection.

Please don't ask me for a copy, because I can't send you one!

The Next was:
Dean Fasano; lead vocals
Bruce Foster; vocals, guitar & keyboards
Jody Giambelluca; vocals, bass
Steve Mosley; vocals & drums
Richie Sambora; vocals & guitar

The Songs:
We Will Rock You - lead vocal: Dean
Cruising Lines - lead vocal: Dean
It Won't Be Long - lead vocal: Dean
I Need Your Love - lead vocal: Dean
Into The Night - lead vocal: Bruce
Ice Cold - lead vocal: Jody (guitar intro: Richie)
Southern Belle - lead vocal: Richie
Note: When Richie growls "Schnardvarts" into the microphone at the beginning of the song, that's a signal for the soundman to turn his vocal up in the onstage monitor mix.
I Haven't Changed - lead vocal: Steve
Right Side Of A Good Time - lead vocals: Jody, Richie & Steve
California Man - lead vocal: Richie
Honky Tonk Woman - lead vocal: Steve
Shattered - lead vocal: Richie
Feel Like Making Love - lead vocal: Dean
Get Back - lead vocal: Jody
Tie Your Mother Down - Dean
